How to Master the Pefect Brow Shape

When and why did brows become so important? I think sometimes we overcomplicate it…Curious about how to get the ideal eyebrow shape for your face? When it comes to shaping your eyebrows, there is no one-size-fits all approach. From the face shape and skin tone to hair color, each set of brows is unique for each person. With eyebrow mapping, you can find the ideal eyebrow that is perfectly tailored to your face. It’s important to follow your natural brow shape.

What is brow mapping?

First things first, brow mapping is a tool and a way of working that allows you to define the desired ideal brow shape. Through brow mapping, you create symmetrical lines that eventually form an eyebrow shape.  Simply put, this is a process of marking specific points on your brows and face that highlight where your eyebrows should start, where your arch should be, and where the tail should end.

How to map your brows

Use a brow pencil to mark three key points along each brow: the front, the arch, and the tail. "To find the front, place the end of your pencil vertically from the dimple of your nose to the inner corner of your eye, noting where the pencil crosses your brow," says Marris.

To find the arch, lay your pencil from the dimple of the nose towards the brow, but this time turn it slightly diagonally so that it's in line with the outside of the iris—this point is where the arch should be the highest.

Finally, find where the tail of your brow should end by tilting your pencil from the side of your nostril to the corner of your eye, closest to your ear. "These three points will help you to determine the basic shape of your brow," she says. "From there, outline the top of your brow by connecting these points with your brow pencil. Then, outline that same shape along the bottom of your brow." (At this point the thickness is up to you.)

And voilà, you've drawn your perfect brow shape! All that's left to do is tweeze any brow hairs that fall outside the lines to help create symmetry and tidy up your brows.

Picking the right color for your brows

Have you ever wondered if the brow color you’re using is the right color? At first glance you love it and now you’re not so sure…The color becomes to dark, not dark enough or it turns on you mid-day into a color you can’t quite describe.

Color matching you eyebrows no longer has to be a guessing game. no matter your hair color, there is a color for you. For a more natural framed face, you should stick with soft natural shades that are similar to your actual eyebrow color. Don’t be afraid to mix colors and blend. Sometimes there is just no right eyebrow shade on its own and it may take two colors and sometimes three to create the perfect shade.

Try using a natural shade first, enhancing it with a little darker shade at the arch of your eyebrows or at the tip of your brows. The end result will give your brows a softer fill and frame your face at the same time.

Most people can pull off a couple of different shades in their brows, so don't stress too much! Remember, it's all about what YOU like best and what makes you feel confident.

Brows can make a big difference but they shouldn't be something you stress about, they're just brows and you're so much more than some hair on your face! Also remember that eyebrows are sisters, not twins. If you need help finding the perfect shade for your eyebrows, reach out and I can custom Color Match you!
